The Villanova Singers

Highlights of 2007-08:

  • We welcomed 16 freshmen into the group, 9 of which showed up for Music Camp for Singers.

  • Parents' Weekend 2007 was a success.  The Singers performed "Why We Sing" and "Kate" in memorable fashion at the showcase.

  • Fall Cocktail '07 took place in Philadelphia for the Singers and Voices (Villanova's all-female chorus).

  • Singers traveled to Richland, NJ for a mini-tour in November 2007 to sing at St. Augustine College Preparatory School, an Augustinian high school.

  • The Voices-Singers Winter 2007 Concert was a big success.  Each group did a repertoire of Christmas and religious songs.  The groups combined at the end to sing "O Magnum Mysterium," conducted by Christine Nass.

  • The Singers sang the National Anthem at several Villanova Basketball games held at the Pavilion on campus and at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

  • On Valentine's Day, the campus covered by Singers in tuxedos, delivering Singing Valentines all day long.  This fun and well-known tradition is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.

  • On Monday, February 25, 2008, the Singers voted on their executive board for the 2008-09 school year. They officially began their duties "as soon as the final note was sung at the Spring Concert." The new board is:

    • President: Matthew Gerard '09

    • Vice President: Andrew Clare '09

    • Tour Director: Paul Parisi '09

    • Treasurer: Ryan McCann '09

    • Alumni Chair: Charles Gillespie '10

    • Secretary: Greg Moore '11

    • Fundraising Chair: James Ellis '10

    • Publicity Chair: Kevin Lavery '10

    • Librarian: Kyle McConville '11

  • For Spring Break, the Singers drove to Troy, NY to sing at St. Augustine Church on Saturday, March 1, then crossed the Canadian border the next day, settling in Montreal. They sang at a nursing home and had their board dinner on Monday, went snow tubing on Tuesday, and drove home on Wednesday (with plenty of site-seeing and tourist-ish nonsense during down time).  Check out the Photos page for pictures of the performances.

  • The Second Singers' Legacy Event was April 4-6 2008. Over 200 past and present Singers attended this fun event in the Villanova Room at the Connelly Center.

  • The Voices-Singers Spring 2008 Concert was held on Saturday, April 19 at 7:30 in St. Mary's Chapel.  The combined piece was Faure's Requiem, conducted by Brian Meneely. The Haveners and Spires, the a cappella affiliates of their respective choruses, also performed.
